Refugee Council (plus subcontractors, e.g. NICEM, NERS)
  • Support and Advice Section provides advice on asylum applications and appeals, benefits and other entitlements
  • Day Centre provides hot meals, language classes, other classes, clothing, baby things, food, in-depth support
  • Specialist Team provides counselling, health advice, Women’s Group
  • RIES provides integration and employment advice for people granted refugee status
  • Provide clients with expenses to cover costs such as travel or photographs
  • Provide links to other organisations
  • Provide high quality reception, advice and information to refugees and asylum seekers
  • Provide emergency provisions e.g. food, sleeping bags, toiletries, items for babies and children
  • Give advice on support, housing, legal issues
  • Specialised help for vulnerable women

  • Referrals are made by doctors, schools, refugee community organisations, community mental health teams, family members and other voluntary and statutory bodies
  • Initial medical assessment, individual casework and counseling, group therapy, physical therapy or psychotherapy
  • Provides free legal advice and representation to asylum seekers from initial from application to the tribunal stage – specialising in fresh claims for people who have exhausted their appeal rights
  • AFRIL works to relieve poverty and isolation among local refugees and asylum seekers, advance their education and the general public of their rights and needs.
Destitution funds
Many charities, including some One Stop Services, have emergency/destitution funds that can be used for travel to Asylum Screening Units for clients who are yet to claim asylum.
