Campaigning for change

We want to make a difference... a key area of our work is to campaign for policy change in areas that impact on the lives of homeless people.  We want to ensure government policy doesn't inadvertently cause homelessness.

Our ambition is to end homelessness.  This means we have to remove barriers to people moving on to independent lives and work with government to ensure that their policies are "homeless proofed".  Much of our influencing work is 'behind closed doors' - in depth conversations with senior officials and Ministers across all parties that aim to increase awareness of the valuable work of the homelessness sector and to inform policy development.  But some of our work on influencing policy change is more overt.  On these pages you'll find examples of some of our specific action in our campaign to end homelessness at a national and local level. 

• Highlighting  the value for money of the sector and lobbying to protect services following the cuts announced in the Comprehensive Spending Review.  Find out more about our post CSR campaigning activity here.
• Support the sector to influence locally and to develop an overview of what is happening across the country
• Keeping the focus on ending rough sleeping by 2012 at national and local government level
• Responding to the Coalition Government’s proposals in relation to the impact of welfare reform and housing benefit, health, localism and criminal justice on the specific needs of homeless people and responds appropriately.  You can read more about our campaigning work in the area of welfare reform here. 
• Making multiple needs a political priority in conjunction with the partners from the Making Every Adult Matter coalition.
