The Government released its rough sleeping strategy on 13 August 2018, the first since announcing its commitment to halve the number of people sleeping on the streets by 2022 and to end the problem by 2027.
Homeless Link responds to social housing green paper
Rick Henderson, Chief Executive of Homeless Link, said:
“While we welcome the focus that today’s green paper gives to improving social housing in this country, we are disappointed to see that there is no new money promised to build more homes. We had hoped that the Government would have been more ambitious in taking urgent action to tackle the chronic undersupply of genuinely affordable housing and the many more homes that need to be built to meet the demand.
“Yesterday, along with our members, Homeless Link welcomed the Government’s new rough sleeping strategy but warned that without also focusing on the structural causes of homelessness like the lack of low-cost homes the problem would never be fully solved. Without addressing this the Government will struggle to deliver its promise to end rough sleeping by 2027.”
