We represent and support 500 organisations working with homeless people in the UK
The success of the homelessness sector in tackling homelessness and moving people off the streets to independent living are a credit to the determination, resilience, innovation and abililty to adapt to change of our members. These are attributes we need now more than ever with the imminent public spending cuts and the government’s proposals on welfare reform and the risk that these will result in rising unemployment and homelessness.
We have known for a while that tough times lie ahead for the third sector in general, and in particular for homelessness as demand for our services increases in light of the economic downturn. Some valuable services will not survive. Others will merge or retrench, seeking to minimise the impact on the people they serve. But many will survive and prosper as they find new ways to evidence the value of their work, link more closely with the local community, and make efficiencies in the way they work.
We will add more resources on a regular basis. Please do send in links or recommendations to resources you have found helpful.
