The Homeless Older People’s Needs Audit has been developed by the Coalition on Older Homelessness Project (COHP) at Homeless Link.
Across the country many older homeless people are housed in inappropriate temporary accommodation that is unsuitable for their health and social care needs and which should not be their long-term home.
The Homeless Older People’s Needs Audit has been designed as a simple tool, that can be used by local authorities and providers to collect information on the numbers and support needs of older homeless people in their temporary accommodation.
Local authorities and providers can use the information provided by the audit to inform their Supporting People, Homelessness, Housing, and Older People’s strategies, and ensure that Joint Strategic Needs Assessments cover older homeless people.
The audit can aid the planning of better services for older homeless people and raise awareness of the complex and long term needs of sections of the older homeless population.
