Places of Change are services for homeless people that rebuild lives. In this section you can find information and resources about making hostels, day centres and other services Places of Change.

About Places of Change

The Places of Change Programme is led by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). The Programme aims to encourage homelessness agencies to focus on moving service users forward. This includes improving their access to meaningful occupation and training and employment opportunities. The four key elements to a Places of Change project are:

• client involvement
• welcoming buildings
• motivated staff
• empowering services

The HCA has provided £80 million of capital funding in the current programme. However, it is possible to become a Place of Change without capital investment.

Helping services become Places of Change is one of the central aims of Homeless Link's regional development work. Our regional managers:

• act as a gateway to knowledge, resources and influence
• identify opportunities and resources that can help
• disseminate existing practice examples
• encourage agencies to learn from each other.

Th is booklet is the result of a project, funded by Communities and Local Government, to gather a series of inspiring case studies from 'places of change' services...  Inside you'll find eight projects, from across england, that have adopted the 'places of change' ethos to offer services that enable people to transform their lives. 

We have produced an interactive DVD to help you on your journey to becoming a 'Place of Change'. It features some of the successes and learning from leading providers.
