Mohammed Sabeel is Homeless Link's Regional Manager for the East Midlands. Sabeel works across the region delivering the two key goals of Homeless Link to:
The main focus of Homeless Link's work in the East Midlands is to support agencies delivering homelessness services to improve by adopting the Places of Change approach, and to support the region to End Rough Sleeping by 2012. Other priorities include helping the homelessness sector to demonstrate how their work contributes to Local Area Agreements, working in partnership with other sectors to provide activities and education, training and employment opportunities, and improving move-on arrangements by promoting the use of the Move-On Plan Protocol (MOPP).
Since April 2008, nine projects in the East Midlands have been awarded a total of £ 7.1m in capital funding through Communities and Local Government’s Places of Change programme. This will support them to transform their buildings, staff and services.
As well as working closely with Communities and Local Government, Government Office for the East Midlands, local authorities and homeless organisations in the region, Sabeel is also a member of the East Midlands Regional Homelessness Group and other local forums.
Homeless Link's Local Homelessness Statistics Tables and National Summary Table show a wide variety of the latest local figures on statutory and non-statutory homelessness, planned moves and numbers of services.
Day Centres Networking Seminar
This event was held jointly with the Yorkshire and Humber region in July 2009 at the Cathedral Archer Project in Sheffield. It is planned to hold another of these in early 2010 – contact Mohammed Sabeel if you are interested in seeing the notes of the previous meeting or attending the next one.
Good Practice in Working with A8 and A2 Nationals
A Spotlight event jointly run with the East of England region was held in Peterborough in July 2009. It was aimed at local authorities and looked at different ways of working with homeless A8 and A2 nationals. It was an opportunity to network, highlight good practice and discuss specific areas of work. It also gave a chance to hear from Communities and Local Government about their latest good practice notes on tackling rough sleeping amongst Central and Eastern European migrants. Contact Mohammed Sabeel for more information.
Places of Change and Other Good Practice
There is an abundance of good practice in the region, including new initiatives on rough sleeping, high quality day centres, new Places of Change hostel provision, service user involvement and really inspirational methods of engaging people in activities, training and employment. Contact Mohammed Sabeel if you would like to know more or want to discuss ways of developing your organisation.
