Helen Loosemore is Homeless Link's Regional Manager for Yorkshire and the Humber. She works across the Yorkshire and Humber region delivering the two Homeless Link goals to:
raise standards in the services that support homeless people and tackle homelessness
influence the development of policy, strategy and investment at all levels of government.
In 2007/8 Homeless Link's research into the homelessness sector found that in Yorkshire and the Humber there were:
Homeless Link's Local Homelessness Statistics Tables and National Summary Table show a wide variety of the latest local figures on statutory and non-statutory homelessness, planned moves and numbers of services.
The main focus is to support the region to End Rough Sleeping by 2012. This is achieved by engaging with agencies and Local Authorities across the Yorkshire and Humber region and Helen is chair of the regional homelessness forum for Local Authorities. Helen is supporting the implementation of the Homelessness Change Programme - a capital programme for hostels to improve their facilities to end rough sleeping in their area. Other priorities include supporting the process to count and estimate the numbers of rough sleepers in the region, which takes place each autumn / winter; and supporting providers to ensure that there is additional cold weather provision in the region each winter.
Helen has been the Homeless Link Regional Manager in Yorkshire and the Humber since June 2011. Before this she worked for Lambeth Borough Council commissioning homelessness and rough sleeping services. Helen is originally from Yorkshire and prior to moving to London to work for Lambeth Council she worked in supported housing services in both Manchester and Leeds.
