FRAMEWORK HA - PAINT IT

Framework is a charity which provides housing, support, training, care and resettlement services - opening doors to thousands of homeless and vulnerable people in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Paint It is a social enterprise that aims to support volunteers and trainees in completing painting and decorating within Framework services and buildings and other external organisations to a professional standard. Paint It provides opportunities for people to gain work experience in a supported environment, initially as volunteers and with an opportunity to then apply for a paid traineeship. They aim to develop the business so that it can eventually be run by people who use Framework's services.

HOW THEY SUPPORT HOMELESS PEOPLE

Paint It’s business purpose is: To deliver a quality painting and decorating business to Housing Associations and other voluntary, statutory and private organisations across Nottinghamshire

Paint It’s social purpose is:

  • To provide training, volunteer placement, traineeships and employment opportunities to homeless people living in Nottinghamshire
  • To support homeless people to increase their vocational, social and employability skills
  • To support homeless people to increase confidence and self esteem, increase positive mental health, reduce drug and alcohol abuse, increase positive behaviour and reduce offending

The rationale behind Paint It is to move people from poverty and being socially excluded to active members of the community who are earning money and contributing positively to society.

100% of their paid staff are homeless or have experienced homelessness.

WHY THEY ARE A GOOD BUSINESS MODEl

Since May 2009, Paint It’s social impact has been:

  • 5 people have moved into employment
  • 120 homeless and vulnerable people accessed training opportunities
  • 40 homeless and  vulnerable people accessed volunteering opportunities

The business aims to support paid staff and trainees and to have up to 18 people on work placement at anyone time.
The business plan is focused solely on Framework’s planned internal and external decoration needs for the first 2 years and to use that time to develop and implement a marketing plan that will see Paint It become ‘the’ Painting and Decorating solution for other voluntary and public sector customers.

In 3 years paint it will tender for external contracts across Nottinghamshire. The number of volunteers involved and trainees employed would increase a better turnover and profit increase with the expansion of the business.
