Be equipped to respond to a medical emergeny

This course will give you the skills and confidence needed to deal with medical emergencies on the street or in situations where you might not have access to first aid equipment.

This is a practical course developed in partnership with the British Red Cross. The training involves a number of hands-on sessions allowing you to practice the techniques you have learned. On successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate from the British Red Cross.

what will you learn?

On completion of this course you will:

  • recognise when someone is suffering from an overdose, and know what to do
  • know how and when to employ mouth to mouth resuscitation and CPR
  • know how to prevent blood loss
  • be able to clean and dress different types of wound
  • recognise shock and be able to treat someone who is in shock
  • be able to perform abdominal thrusts to prevent choking
  • be able to place someone in the recovery position
  • understand the importance and principles of hygiene.

Who is this course for?

Any front line or service delivery staff, supervisors or managers who might find themselves in a position where they need to respond to a medical emergency.
