With changes being introduced to the housing benefit system, it is essential that you can help your clients to get the most out of their housing benefits.

  • understand housing benefit basics  
  • understand the qualifying conditions for housing benefit, including the right to reside
  • understand how and when clients should claim housing benefit
  • know how to calculate benefit, including premiums, non dependents, local housing allowances and eligible rent
  • know how benefits can be maximised, including backdating/ overpayments
  • know how decisions can be challenged
  • understand current and planned changes to the housing benefit system
  • understand how to use reference materials

This course is suitable for new frontline staff or experienced professionals who want to update their skills. Attendees should have some familiarity with the housing benefit system or have been on the 'Introduction to Welfare Benefits' course.
