Colchester Community of Practice Online: Let’s talk about Peer Mentoring.

Wednesday, 23 September 2020
Online 14:30 - 16:30

Peer Mentoring is something easily talked about but rarely put into action. In this session, we will explore what it really means to work with people who have lived experience of homelessness to co-create a successful Peer Mentor programme, and to consider if this is the right things for Colchester.

''The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
― Maya Angelou, All God’s Children Need Travelling Shoes

Sometimes our greatest resource is right here in front of us – the people we support. Those who have lived experience of homelessness and complex lives are the experts in our midst – if only we listened a little more closely and committed to working collaboratively.

How can we harness this expertise to create improved options and resources for those we support?  How can we make the most of this experience to transform our homelessness sector?

Colchester Borough Homes is interested in exploring the options for developing a Peer Mentoring scheme for the town. To support this dialogue Groundswell have agreed to talk about their work with people who have lived experience of homelessness and to support the local discussion around how Peer Mentoring can work for Colchester.

We facilitate events using a Solution Focused Practice approach so that problems are acknowledged but not dwelt on; instead, we look at building on existing resources and skills to work towards a shared, preferred future – as well as expanding knowledge where required. As this is an online event the format will vary however we will endeavour to leave you feeling positive, hopeful and better connected to the bigger picture.

Homeless Link Communities of Practice are designed to bring together people working on the frontline of homelessness and related fields within local areas. The aim is to create a safe and informal space in which particpants can share knowledge and good practice, discuss local issues and explore how best to collaboratively overcome them.

Our CoP’s are open to paid and unpaid workers and to people with lived experience of homelessness.
