Peter Smith returns to Homeless Link as Director of Sector Development

Monday, 5 October 2020 - 10:03am

We are excited to welcome Peter Smith back to Homeless Link in the new role of Director of Sector Development from 5 October 2020.

Unprecedented and rapid change is taking place across the homelessness sector and our society, and with this comes an opportunity to re-shape the practice response and achieve a significant step towards our overall goal of ending homelessness.

As Director of Sector Development, Peter will pioneer and promote innovative practice, while working to strengthen and enable our member organisations working on the frontline of homelessness and supported housing. He will lead our practice development, regional partnerships work, membership programme and events, training and consultancy offering.

Peter will also help guide the strategic direction of Homeless Link, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. This is our second director-level appointment in as many months and we are confident that our new leadership team will strengthen our ability to support our members across a broad spectrum of issues.

Peter returns to Homeless Link, where he was previously Head of Partnerships, following two years’ secondment as a Rough Sleeping Advisor at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). Prior to joining Homeless Link in 2014, Peter managed Sunderland City Council’s Housing Advice and Homelessness Service.

Pete has the following message for Homeless Link’s members: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to Homeless Link as Director of Sector Development after two great years working within the Rough Sleeping Initiative for MHCLG. We continue to work in a time of real uncertainty, and the impact this has on society as a whole, and crucially those experiencing or at risk of homelessness, means we need to continue to provide clear support and leadership for the homelessness sector.

“The impact of ‘Everyone In’ should not be underestimated in both saving lives of people experiencing homelessness and providing an opportunity for people to be supported to move forward. The efforts of everyone involved to create this has been nothing short of amazing, but we mustn’t lose this opportunity. We must ensure that the next steps are humane, safe, collaborative and informed by the wishes of the individuals themselves.

“I look forward to working with you all to grasp this opportunity and create a collective solution to end homelessness and rough sleeping once and for all.”
