Essex Community of Practice

Tuesday, 21 September 2021
Online 1.30pm - 3.30pm

How do we effectively support and encourage the voice of lived experience with value and meaning?

“Be brave. Take risks. Nothing can substitute experience.” Paulo Coelho

This session will provide those attending the opportunity to hear first-hand the importance of working alongside those who have lived experience. We will hear how the value of our story can be integral when promoting systems change and the key role lived experience brings in service delivery, review and design. We aim to ensure that services are designed and delivered alongside the voice of lived experience. The session will include an opportunity to reflect on your own experience when working alongside the voice of lived experience and how as an individual and/or organization, we can support the development of expert by experience forums and ensure the voice of lived experience being valued and heard.

Marie Edmonds will be joining us at this Community of Practice event. Marie founded Carries Outreach, part of Aspirations, a gender and trauma informed service in Southend, Essex, after her own experience clearly identified the need for a specialized service to work alongside women who sell sex on the streets in Southend. Marie has promoted significant change in local systems to ensure better support, safeguarding and exit pathways for the women she supports.

There will be another speaker, details are to be confirmed.

This will be an opportunity to share information on:

-    How we can support the development of expert by experience forums

-    How is this currently being supported and developed in Essex

-    What are we giving back to those who share their experiences with us?
