Working closely with the Housing First Development Officer, your focus will be on placing Housing First clients directly into their own accommodation. 

We’re looking for a forward-thinking individual with experience of delivering person-centred support to vulnerable people to join us as an Engagement Worker and play a vital role in helping clients with multiple complex needs to lead fulfilling lives.

Housing First is a successful housing model piloted in the UK and Europe. Our pilot is delivered by specialist engagement workers within the Inspiring Change Manchester team, an exciting partnership led by Shelter. Its aim? To provide independent housing, without conditions, and flexible, intensive support to people who may have struggled in other types of accommodation. It operates on the principle that if a person has a safe, secure home they are in the best position to address any other challenges they may have.

This post is funded through the Big Lottery Fund’s £112m initiative to support people with multiple needs.

About the role
You will work to develop person centred and co-produced support plans and act as a key worker in order to support clients to sustain their accommodation and move forward with their recovery. Co-ordinating interventions provided by other agencies to ensure the right support is provided at the right time to enable the service user to progress on their journey to recovery will be important too. And, when it comes to adopting and modelling best practice in working with people who have multiple and complex needs, again, it’s you we’ll be counting on to deliver.

About you
We would like to hear from individuals with recent experience of delivering person centred support to vulnerable people or people with multiple and complex needs within a safeguarding framework and we also encourage applications from people with lived experience of multiple and complex needs. A proven ability to supervise/mentor others is required too and knowledge of Manchester based services relevant to the client group would be really useful. Structured, calm and organised, yet flexible in your approach, you're great at building relationships, have respect for others and are not afraid to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas, methods and processes when appropriate.
