Online 11am - 1pm

The statistics on domestic abuse during COVID 19 are staggering with a significant increase in identified cases across the country during the last 12 months. Frontline workers in homelessness services are often the first point of contact - we need to ensure that every opportunity to support survivors is maximised.

Each time a woman stands up for herself without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women.” Maya Angelou

For this Community of Practice we will have Yvette Hazelden the Community & Strategic Lead for Domestic Abuse servcies for Look Ahead in Kent. Yvette will reflect upon the work of her team and the wider context in Kent including KIDAS - the Kent Integrated Domestic Abuse Service.

We are also hoping to have online with us someone who has lived experience of domestic abuse to share their insights on what support worked for them……and what really didn’t work!

This session will be an opportunity for participants to reflect upon their own practice, talk about what has worked within their service and seek solutions to the current challenges. We will of course collectively consider the impact of COVID 19 on the delivery of services to those experiencing domestic abuse with the aim of taking back some good practice ideas into our projects and servcies.

Homeless Link Communities of Practice are designed to bring together people working on the frontline of homelessness and related fields within local areas. The aim is to create a safe and informal space in which attendees can share knowledge and good practice, discuss local issues and explore how best to collaboratively overcome them.

Our CoP’s are open to paid and unpaid workers and to people with lived experience of homelessness.

We facilitate events using a Solution Focused Practice approach so that problems are acknowledged but not dwelt on; instead, we look at building on existing resources and skills to work towards a shared, preferred future – as well as expanding knowledge where required. As this is an online event the format will vary however we will endeavour to leave you feeling positive, hopeful and better connected to the bigger picture.
