Communication and influencing skills
Monday, 22 February 2021
Online | 10.00am-11.30am
It is almost certain that your job requires you to influence people on a daily basis. This may take the form of getting people to do things; inspiring others to buy into something; motivating your team; working in partnership; or selling an idea. Whatever the context, being able to influence is an essential management and leadership skill.
People who are successful at holding positively persuasive conversations know that it requires preparation and the conscious use of key communication skills.
This training programme will provide participants with an opportunity to reflect, explore and build on their current skill base. It will look at what influencing is, and the key skills and tools required to influence effectively.
What will you learn?
Pre-session Activities
These activities comprise part of the training programme and need to be completed before attending each session. Activities include self-reflection exercises, a self-assessment, a short online video and an opportunity to identify specific examples to work on during the programme to facilitate an effective transfer of theory into practice.
Session One: exploring influencing
In this session we will look at what influencing is, why it is important, and explore the key skills required for persuasive communication and influencing.
Session Two: understanding how to influence
In this session we will look at how different people think, how they process information, and how they communicate. We will also explore the important role of emotions and Emotional Intelligence. We will consider the six key principles of influencing and how they can be used to strengthen our approach.
Session Three: influencing styles and the influencing process
This session builds on the previous sessions and introduces the key influencing styles, as well as an effective and simple framework for influencing. The session concludes with an exercise to support and facilitate the effective transfer of learning back into the workplace.
