Safe home working environments: legal responsibilities and practical solutions

Home working has become the norm for many staff because of the Coronavirus pandemic. This calls for practical and sensitive management, to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of staff is properly monitored and managed. This course will provide a good understanding of our joint responsibilities in general health and safety for anyone who works at home, and will provide home working top tips for both employer and staff.

Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at:

  • staff with responsibilities for supervising and managing staff
  • staff working from home
  • staff responsible for health and safety.

What will you learn?

Module 1 – Responsibilities and Legal Requirements

This module will look at Health and Safety risk assessments, effective communication between staff and their employer, the responsibilities of staff and legal requirements of the employer and what to do when things go wrong, such as accidents.

Module 2 – Practical Homeworking

This module will cover safe working environments for home workers. Key features of an office environment in the home. Risk assessing workspace, ensuring staff have adequate workplace and work station equipment applicable to their needs and ensuring reasonable adjustments Awareness of dangers such as trips and falls, fire and electrical hazards, and securing confidential records.

Module 3 – Working at Home

This module will look at the implications and impact of home working.  Homeworking can cause work-related stress, particularly in times of pandemic and being physically isolated form other colleagues, which can make it difficult to get appropriate support. We will consider the issues relating to feeling connected whilst lone working at home, the impact of mental stress and practical ways to maintain a healthy home and work life balance.

Duration

How our online training courses work: Each course subject consists of 3 modules, which will take place over 3 consecutive weekly installments. The course will be tailored to address the needs of the sector during COVID-19. When you sign up, you will be signing up for all 3 modules.

We ask for a commitment from delegates to attend all 3 sessions. Sessions are not recorded, and slides will not be available until all 3 sessions have taken place.

Module 3: Tuesday, 15 December 2020 | 10.00am-11.30am

Cost

£75.00 per person - all three modules are included in this price

Payment can be made by card via PayPal. For bookings of 3 or more places, an invoice can be raised - please email Lana.Newby@homelesslink.org.uk to make bookings to be invoiced. We are unable to take requests for invoicing for fewer than 3 people for our online training.

This course is also available to be booked for staff teams of up to 20 people, to be delivered online "in-house" in live interactive sessions on dates to suit your organisation.
