On Wednesday 19 March representatives from Homeless Link visited Parliament to present our Breaking the Cycle campaign to a group of MPs and homelessness sector leaders.

Presenting to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Ending Homelessness, Head of Policy and Research Sophie Boobis and Policy Manager Cat Tottie set out how the policy recommendations in the Breaking the Cycle report could empower frontline services to make progress in reducing and preventing homelessness.

Focusing on reform to the homelessness funding system, Breaking the Cycle urges Ministers to switch focus away from expensive short-term crisis measures and to invest in long-term solutions and prevention. The APPG provided a fantastic opportunity to advocate for a funding system that is both more effective in reducing homelessness and more efficient in terms of government spending.

We were joined by colleagues from Inside Housing as part of our shared campaign to Reset Homelessness, who described the APPG as a “great opportunity” to feed that work into Government.

APPG members were positive about the recommendations of the report, and shared our ask for Government to conduct a systematic review of homelessness spending and build a better funding model through the upcoming Comprehensive Spending Review and the new Homelessness Strategy.

Homeless Link members are also getting involved in the campaign, asking their local MPs to visit their services to see the value they can deliver in reducing and preventing homelessness in communities across the UK. You can find out more about the campaign and about getting involved on the Breaking the Cycle campaign page.
