The Regulator of Social Housing has opened a consultation on their 'More and Better Social Homes' proposals. The call for evidence seeks views on how regulation should enable the delivery of more social housing while improving existing homes. You can respond directly using the Government's website.

This call for evidence is due to close on 30th September. The outcome of the consultation will be particularly relevant for supported housing providers, for reasons set out below.

You can also help shape the Chartered Institute for Housing's response to this consultation by answering six short questions, set out at the end of this article. This may be a good option if your team do not have time or capacity to respond to the consultation in full.

Relevance for supported housing providers

Many of the proposed regulatory changes could directly affect how supported housing providers demonstrate governance, financial sustainability, service quality and development capacity.

Describing how you operate complex models involving care, support and housing functions, is imperative to their understanding to help deliver more supported housing. Outlining issues such as organisational autonomy, financial resilience and relationships with third parties is particularly important. This call for evidence presents an opportunity for providers to influence how future regulation reflects the realities of delivering specialist and supported housing.

CIH have prepared a short summary of the key proposals within the More and Better Social Homes document which you can download and review before completing your response.
