The Government has taken a further step towards implementing the Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023.
The Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) have now launched the consultation on draft regulations that would deliver the policy proposals they set out in their response to the Supported Housing regulation: consultation.
For a summary of the measures outlined in that response, see our blog from April 2026.
This latest consultation closes on 10th December 2026. Homeless Link will be responding on behalf of our members, and we also encourage individual members who have the capacity to do so to respond.
This consultation is highly technical, because it relates to the actual wording of the regulations that will bring the licensing regime into effect. Following the initial round of consultation and response, it is unlikely that the Government’s plans will change significantly now.
Our emphasis in responding will be on ensuring that what they have decided to proceed with is as clear and workable for the homelessness sector as possible. We will also highlight any outstanding areas of concern or points of contention.
Next month we will share another blog that highlights the key things to look out for in the consultation, and shares our thinking on where the issues may still lie.
In the meantime, if you have any thoughts or feedback on the consultation, please contact Alex on the details below.
