Context
The Government has launched a pilot to extend the move-on period for newly recognised refugees. This extension to 56 days (up from 28) aims to reduce the risk of homelessness and provide a smoother transition into life in the UK. The pilot, set for review in June 2025, represents a positive step forward. However, much work remains to ensure refugees receive the support they need.
Homeless Link and NACCOM have long advocated for this change, but it is now crucial that we push for this trial extension to be made permanent. We must also ensure that any future move-on period is effective in preventing homelessness and supporting refugees through their transition. We are currently working on outlining our key asks and recommendations to government and want to make sure that the voices of those working directly with refugees are included.
What you can expect from the session
We invite you to join us for a member engagement session to discuss the implications of this new pilot and help shape our recommendations for what effective move-on for asylum accommodation to prevent homelessness should look like. The session is for people who have experience supporting non-UK nationals facing homelessness.
The session will take place online and will feature a combination of group discussions and smaller activities to ensure all voices are heard.
Due to facilitation logistics, attendance will be capped at 40 people, so please confirm your place as soon as possible.
