This course will give you the knowledge and understanding to develop your keyworking approach, with a focus on motivation, engagement and creative problem-solving. It will help you to respond creatively to non-engagement and ambivalence about change, using different strategies to achieve a person-centred and strengths-based approach to keyworking.

Course content

  • What is keyworking and what do we need to be effective keyworkers?
  • Understanding motivation and engagement.
  • Cycle of change – strategies for different stages of change.
  • Motivational interviewing – introduction to core skills.
  • Using creativity and creative problem-solving in keyworking.

Who is this course for?

It is suitable for frontline staff in the homelessness and supported housing sector, whether new to the role or looking to refresh their keyworking skills.

What will you learn?

On completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Adapt your keyworking approach to increase motivation and engagement.
  • Use a range of tools and approaches in keyworking.
  • Apply a creative problem-solving approach.
  • Reflect on your strengths and areas for improvement, creating a personal action plan to put learning into practice.

Bookings for larger groups

This course is also available to be booked for staff teams of up to 20 people, to be delivered online "in-house" in live interactive sessions on dates to suit your organisation. This course can booked to be delivered in-person (subject to government advice).
