Develop an understanding of the reasons a person may hoard and how to support a person to overcome barriers to disposing of their hoard.
Hoarding Disorder, often found based in anxiety, is a very complex mental health issue. Increasingly we are becoming more aware of people living in a hoarded home and can find ourselves overwhelmed by the living conditions.
By approaching the person and not the hoard, and engaging with the person through supportive interventionstm, this course will enable participants to adopt a strengths-based approach to supporting a person who lives with hoarding disorder.
What will you learn?
- Understand how hoarding affects people
- Possible reasons behind the hoard
- Develop empathy with people experiencing Hoarding Disorder
- The complexities of Hoarding Disorder
- Explore ways to support and empower people to overcome barriers to disposing of their hoard
- How to provide tailored and strengths-based support
- How to link in with partner agencies.
We do encourage participants to look after their wellbeing as this course can be an emotive subject for some. Anyone requiring any time out throughout the day is encouraged to do so, with assistance from the trainer if requested.
