By the end of this course, you will be better prepared to fulfil your role and contribute to a safer environment for adults at risk.
Who is this course for?
This course is specifically designed for frontline staff seeking to strengthen and consolidate their understanding of safeguarding adults at risk.
What will you learn?
The course will equip you to:
- Understand the Legal and Social Context: Explore the critical elements of legislation, including the Care Act 2014, and understand how this framework, and the wider landscape, shapes your responsibilities.
- Identify Forms of Abuse: Develop the ability to identify and differentiate various forms of abuse as defined by legislation. Recognise signs and indicators that may suggest an adult at risk is experiencing abuse.
- Report Abuse Effectively: Learn how to confidentially and appropriately report suspected abuse. Understand your role as an 'alerter' and the vital part you play in safeguarding situations. Explore the reasons behind underreported abuse and strategies to overcome these barriers.
- Protect Adults at Risk: Acquire the skills to take immediate steps to protect adults at risk when abuse is suspected. Be prepared to respond swiftly and effectively in situations that require urgent action.
- Promote Accountability: Gain the confidence to explain why instances of abuse are sometimes not reported by clients or staff. Understand the factors contributing to non-disclosure and how to address them sensitively.
- Navigate the Safeguarding Process: Develop a comprehensive overview of the safeguarding process that follows an alert. Explore effective alternatives and complementary approaches to formal safeguarding referrals. And why principles of equity and inclusion are key in ensuring all adults are protected from harm.
