This course will explore the theory and practice of suicide intervention skills that can be applied in any professional or personal setting. This course is for anyone who seeks greater understanding and confidence to intervene with people at risk of suicide. This course also explores possible prevention and post-incident protocols, and how to support service users and staff after an incident.

Who is this course for?

  • Frontline staff and managers working in the homelessness and supported housing sectors.
  • Multi-sector practitioners including health, housing, social care, education and criminal justice.

  • Barriers that prevent people at risk seeking help
  • Prevalence of suicidal thoughts and suicidal behaviours
  • The Signs of Suicide
  • Partnership working and community resources
  • Suicidal behaviour; reasons and magnitude of the community health problem
  • Role of the worker in managing suicide interventions; different roles with different people
  • Approaches and process of suicide intervention, including desired outcomes
  • Personal impact on staff and the importance of Reflective Practice
  • The impact and value of personal and professional experience with suicide.

Please note: This course discusses sensitive matters. Participants will be asked to self-reflect and develop empathy with a person having thoughts of suicide. Delegates will be able to take time out of the session to look after their wellbeing if they feel they need to.

Homeless Link only use experienced suicide prevention trainers to deliver this course.

Bookings for larger groups

This course is also available to be booked for staff teams of up to 20 people, to be delivered online "in-house" in live interactive sessions on dates to suit your organisation. This course can booked to be delivered in-person (subject to government advice).
