A new set of short videos has been produced to highlight several key homeless health issues and how homelessness workers can navigate them, signposting to practical resources they can use for support.
Featuring people with experience of homelessness and homelessness and inclusion health workers, the videos provide a valuable lived experience perspective, and cover the following topics:
- Talking about health – the importance of holding health conversations with clients, and how to approach this while considering workers’ own wellbeing;
- Suicide preparedness – the need for suicide support readiness, from organisational policies and procedures to practically supporting a person experiencing suicidal thoughts;
- Dental care – the prevalence of oral hygiene support needs and issues around access to dental care (with a particular focus on actions commissioners can take to ensure inclusive services) and
- A&E support – The challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness when attending A&E, and how A&E staff can respond to provide effective support.
You can view the videos and accompanying resources on the above page links and please do share these with others who may find them useful.
The videos have been produced by Homeless Link in partnership with Groundswell and Pathway, as part of the Health and Wellbeing Alliance’s Homeless Health Consortium work.
