This course will provide an introduction to domestic abuse for professionals working in a range of homelessness settings.

By using case studies and drawing on the lived experience of service users, the course will explore the complexities of identifying and responding to domestic abuse in these settings, where service users are likely to be experiencing multiple disadvantages.

Who is this course for?

  • Managers and frontline staff from any homelessness service
  • Staff from other sectors who have contact with people experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness.

What will you learn?

  • The definitions of domestic abuse and coercive control and how to identify these in your service
  • How domestic abuse interacts with other forms of disadvantage, and how this creates barriers to disclosure and support
  • Build confidence working out who is doing what to who, and have better awareness of perpetrators in your services
  • Build confidence talking with survivors about abuse, identifying risk and taking action e.g. referring on, safety planning etc.

Please note: This is a challenging and emotive subject, this course may trigger some emotions. We do our best to facilitate a safe and psychologically informed environment and teaching style for the benefit of delegates attending this course.
