Added 30 June 2022

This is a recoding of a webinar on 29 June 2022 where we launched our new report, Unlocking the door: A roadmap for supporting non-UK nationals facing homelessness in EnglandThe webinar was chaired by Sophie Boobis, Head of Policy and Research at Homeless Link, and explored findings from our research on what works in tackling homelessness among non-UK nationals with restricted eligibility, and what needs to change at local and national levels.

We heard presentations and discussion from panel members, including:

  • Jennie Corbett, Homeless Link Senior Policy Manager
  • Gill Taylor, Strategic Lead for Single Homelessness & Vulnerable Adults at Haringey Council
  • Denise McDowell, Chief Executive of Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit
  • One of NACCOM’s Community Researchers with lived experience of homelessness and immigration control

Our research over the past year - facilitated by our local authority project partners Bedford Council, Haringey Council and Manchester City Council - distilled lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and pre-existing good practice, and identified the blockages in national policy that are obstructing progress. The event presented policy and practice recommendations that will work beyond COVID-19 to find better solutions for this group.
