There is increasing awareness that autistic people may be at higher risk of homelessness. This has not previously been recognised, and as a result services may not be meeting the different needs of autistic people experiencing homelessness.
This course will explore the different kinds of autism in this spectrum and different behaviours and complexities that homelessness staff supporting autistic individuals may encounter. Emphasising a person-centred, strength-based approach, it covers relevant policy, legal frameworks, current service provision and how to work effectively with people who are known to be autistic or who staff think could be autistic.
Who is this course for?
Frontline staff in the homelessness or supported housing sector working with people who have, or appear to have, an autistic spectrum disorder. This course does not require any prior knowledge of autism.
