Who is this course for?
This course is most suitable for workers in front- line services who have received some basic mental health and/or substance misuse training or have some experience of working with this client group. It is an introduction to the subjects to explore ways of supporting this client group, whilst keeping safe.
What will you learn?
On completion of this course you will:
- Be able to Define and understand complex needs, dual diagnosis and PD clusters
- Understand whose responsible; what services and sources of support are there?
- Understand the different approaches to support and how they interrelate
- Go through The cycle of change
- Be introduced to Motivational Interviewing
- Ynderstand Trauma Informed Principles and their benefits
- Look into worker wellbeing and support
Module One
This module introduce the definitions of complex need, dual diagnosis and personality disorder (PD). It will give an overview of common MH issues and the impact of substances on the individual and their treatment. It will explore PD and the most commonly diagnosed disorders for this client group.
Module Two
This module looks at current treatment and support in the community and in services. It will give an overview of Motivational Interviewing in DD, trauma informed principles of working with this client group. It looks at the cycle of change in the dual diagnosis approach and will explore different ways of supporting this client group.
Module Three
This module will cover an individual and service response to this client group. It will explore tips for supporting clients and will look at professional boundaries in the context of supporting someone with complex needs. It will also look at self-care for workers, exploring supervision and reflective practice benefits in this type of support. It also covers best practice guidelines and shares tips for working with this client group.
Duration
Face to face: One-day course
Online: Three 1.5 hour modules delivered in one day
We can be flexible on the above delivery model if needed, but an additional cost may be incurred.

This course can be booked for a team of up to 16 for face to face training or up to 20 for online training:
Members face to face: £940 plus Trainer expenses
Members online: £940 - no Trainer expenses
Non-members face to face: £1,335 plus Trainer expenses
Non-members online: £1,335 - no Trainer expenses
